Umm… men get raped too.

I’m sick to the core of hearing all about how men shouldn’t rape, and we shouldn’t shame women for being sluts.

Obviously, that’s right. Men shouldn’t rape, and women shouldn’t be condemned for having sex.

But men get raped too. Men can rape men, and believe it or not, so can women. Is your mind blown?

Well, it shouldn’t be. Rape is any sexual experience in which one member involved is unwilling. Plain and simple.

If I’m going to have to read preachy posts and articles and what have you every day for the rest of my life about rape culture and our deteriorating society, please, for my sanity, tell the whole story.

Stop shaming men for being rapists. Shame rapists for being rapists.

You’re so right. I feel like this is partly in response to my recent string of slut-shaming posts, where I only explored the male-on-female side of rape culture. I apologize if I made it sound like that was the only kind of rape there was.

I usually make a habit of clarifying that men do get raped (a lot more often than a lot of people would think). And I get just as annoyed when people forget that. And the amount of shaming men get from admitting they’ve been raped in our patriarchal society is astounding. I’ve written several posts about it in the past. So make no mistake: male-on-male, female-on-male, cisgendered-on-transgendered (which is disgustingly rampant as well), and all other combinations of rape do occur.

The sociological reasons for why these different combinations of rape occur are different from one another, however they mostly all stem from patriarchy. In my more recent posts I chose to focus solely on slut-shaming and how it contributes to rape culture, which in this case is mostly directed at females (although I’ve been noticing it more and more in the gay community as well). Again, I apologize if it seemed like I completely ignored other rape victims, as I assure you I know they exist, I know they are even more marginalized, I know it should be discussed more often, and I know rape of any kind cannot be tolerated.

And I also agree with your last line completely.
